Stories of past relationships is a subject of serious interest to us, a lot of our friends have amusing and weird gossip about their hits and misses in the dating world.
I've only had 2 real relationships (real relationship = not just using each other for sex).
The first one was with a guy who we'll call 'S'...
S was initially a purely physical relationship, but after a while he started coming over more and more and asking to take me places, even if it was just to work which I lived a mere 2 minutes away from at the time...
Anyway, I liked him, he was sweet, caring and totally dedicated to me. It definitely wasn't a relationship of the ages but at the time it was sort of fun to have someone who wanted to do everything for me.
The only thing was it got pretty boring after a while, I mean there was no fight, no passion, no love to hate. So I asked him round and told him I couldn't be with him any more; there were tears, though not from me which was slightly awkward but that was it, done, over, kaput.
....Until... 10 months later it was my birthday. I woke up to a text message from him, there was an attachment, already worried about what he'd sent me I apprehensively opened the attachment, next thing I know there's S sat on a chair playing Greenday - Time of your life and singing to the camera!!!! It went on for around 2 minutes and then to my absolute horror at the end of the video he pointed to the camera, said 'happy birthday Amy' and winked....
Now don't get me wrong it was kind and thoughtful and if Alex Turner or Miles Kane had sent me a message like such I would have wept with joy instead of cringing with embarrassment.
S couldn't sing, not even a little, despite the fact many people had informed him of his inability to string sounds together in an appealing way he still considered himself the next Anthony Kiedis...
I never replied to the message and I've not seen him for 2-3 years, so if you're ever in a relationship where the other party will do everything and I mean everything for you, consider the awkward loveliness he may bestow upon you if you leave him/her.
